Service Overview

What we do , and where it fits in.

What it is

Full range of fitting accessories, carpet underlay (PU foam, crumb rubber, sponge rubber), acoustic underlay for laminate and engineered wood, damp-proof membranes, grippers, doorbars (Z-bar, double-sided, ramp, threshold), scotia, beading and adhesives.

Who it's for

Trade fitters topping up between jobs, DIY customers fitting their own floors, landlords doing changeovers, and property managers maintaining a stock for reactive repairs.

When you need it

When the wrong underlay was specified the first time and the floor is suffering for it; when running out mid-job; when a fit needs specialist accessories (stair grippers, ramp doorbars, conductive underlay) that the local DIY shed doesn't carry.

Why professional fit matters

The accessories are where most floor fails start. Cheap chip-foam underlay under a quality carpet halves the lifespan. Missing damp-proof membrane under laminate on concrete causes joint swell within a year. The accessories cost less than the floor, and decide whether the floor pays back what you spent on it.

What Goes Wrong

The problems that turn up
when it's done on the cheap.

Wrong underlay, halved lifespan

10mm PU under a quality carpet feels right and lasts. 6mm chip-foam under the same carpet flattens, ridges and lets the carpet wear through the backing inside 4 years.

No DPM on concrete

Laminate or engineered wood on a concrete sub-floor without a damp-proof membrane takes on residual moisture, the core swells, joints peak. The DPM costs pennies per m².

Wrong doorbar profile

A flat Z-bar between carpet and tile is a trip hazard if there's a level change. The right ramp or threshold bar costs the same and is safe.

Missing scotia or beading

Laminate fitted without scotia or matching skirting leaves the expansion gap visible, looks unfinished, gets dirty, and the fit feels cheap regardless of how good the floor is.

The Detail

How we actually spec the job
materials, methods, situations.

Accessories are unglamorous and decide the floor's lifespan. Here's a working guide to what we stock and how we spec it.

Carpet underlay grades

10mm or 11mm PU underlay is the residential workhorse, quiet, warm, the right firmness for power-stretching. 9mm or 11mm crumb rubber is the heavy-domestic and stair-rated choice. 8mm sponge rubber is a budget option for landlord refits. Contract underlay (firm, dense, low-profile) is what goes under carpet tiles and broadloom in offices.

Hard floor underlay

3mm acoustic foam for laminate over timber. Combination underlay with a built-in damp-proof membrane for laminate over concrete or screed. Specialist UFH-rated thin underlay where underfloor heating is in play, too-thick underlay insulates the heat away from the room.

Grippers and pins

Standard 25mm dual-tack grippers for most rooms. Concrete pins for screed sub-floors. Stair-rated angled grippers for proper stair fitting. We sell them in trade packs, not single lengths.

Doorbars, trims and scotia

Z-bar for carpet-to-carpet at the same level. Double-sided cover strip for carpet-to-hard-floor where the heights match. Ramp bar where there's a level change to a lower floor. Threshold bar for wide doorways. Matching scotia and beading in oak, walnut, white and grey to suit the floor finish.

Adhesives, tapes, sundries

Seam tape (cold and hot iron). Double-sided fitting tape. Spray adhesives for stair carpet and feature fits. Vinyl adhesives (pressure-sensitive and hard-set) for sheet vinyl and LVT. Stocked in commercial sizes for trade and consumer sizes for DIY.

FAQ

Common questions
answered straight.

What underlay should I use under my new carpet?

+

For a standard residential lounge or bedroom, 10–11mm PU underlay is the right default, quiet, warm, supports power-stretching. For stairs and landings, 9–11mm crumb rubber. We'll confirm based on the carpet you're laying.

Do I need a damp-proof membrane under laminate?

+

Yes, if the sub-floor is concrete or screed, even decades-old concrete carries enough residual moisture to swell laminate joints. Use a combination underlay with built-in DPM, or lay a separate DPM under standard underlay.

Do you sell to the public, or only to the trade?

+

Both. Trade customers and informed DIY customers buy at the same direct supply. No 'trade only' counter behind the counter.

Can I collect from your showroom?

+

Yes, same-day collection from 4 Alexandra Rd, Gorseinon, Swansea SA4 4NJ during showroom opening hours.

Do you deliver?

+

Yes, across South Wales on our own van. Delivery charges are area-based and quoted at point of order.

Can you advise on what I need?

+

Yes, over the counter, on the phone or by email. Free, no obligation. We'd rather spec it right first time than sell you something that fails on you.

Do you stock acoustic underlay for upstairs flats?

+

Yes, rated acoustic underlay for laminate, engineered wood and LVT, with manufacturer-tested impact-noise reduction figures available for landlord/building manager evidence.

Do you supply matching scotia and doorbars?

+

Yes, scotia and doorbars in finishes to match common laminate, LVT and engineered wood ranges. Bring a sample or a photo and we'll match it.
